Rule Interpretations

Al MacDonald, Rules/Legislation Committee Chair

DISC BRAKES ON CX BIKE
The only ACA rule on brakes is that "Bicycles shall have at least two brakes that are in good working condition." (ACA rule 11.4.4). No changes have been proposed.

So yes, disc brakes are allowed in ACA cyclocross races. (Rules Committee September, 2006)

The UCI does not allow disc brakes for international events, and so the USCF may disallow them for certain of their events. If you intend to use a bike with disc brakes only in ACA races you are fine, otherwise it might be best to consider standard brakes.

Mishaps for Free Laps

The interpretation is that the rider has to crash to get a free lap. Stuck behind a crash isn't a legitimate reason. (Rules Committee 04/06/2007)

European CEN-certified helmets

European CEN-Certified helmets are legal to wear. (Rules Committee & ACA Board March, 2007)
